An object in motion wants to stay in motion, and we face inertia in our lives, not just in physics. We often underestimate how hard change really is. So as you hit the wall and think about giving up, think back to the reason you wanted to change. You wanted to change something for a reason. You made a resolution because you wanted to change something. You’re fighting against all of that to conquer your resolution, whether it was to go to the gym, eat less sugar, stop smoking, stop drinking, meditate more, lose weight, read more books, or work on your relationship. January 1st wasn’t some magical day that erased all of your routines and your muscle memory. Your mind is used to the habits you had last year. Your body wants to live this life you’ve been living. You are not a failure unless you completely give up. You are not a failure you’re just going over some speed bumps right now. How can we change that? If you gave up, or if you’re thinking about giving up, I want to talk to you. Approximately 23 percent of people give up after just a week! Only 19 percent stick with their resolution long-term. By February 1st, the average person has moved on. Statistically, this is the time that people give up on their resolutions. If you’re one of the people who committed to a big change this year, you might be frustrated. Don’t be annoyed, the gym needs them to stay open too. If you’re like me and always at the gym, welcome the new members. Every year in January, the gyms are packed. Just go day by day, she said.Let’s talk about New Year’s resolutions. "Write it down, say you are going to do it and just follow through."Ĭhase said people should be active at least 30 minutes a day and not to make long term plans. "The biggest thing is to follow through with your commitments," Chase said. People make promises but procrastinate and eventually don’t go through with their plans, she said. She said they wanted to bring awareness to a healthy life style as well as raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.Ĭhase said around this time people have already given up on their New Year’s resolution to lose the extra weight. Kim Chase, owner of Superior Corporate Boot Camp, said the biggest influx of people getting active was during the New Year. I’m pretty busy with other things but I enjoyed it." "Without my wife, I probably won’t (do anymore boot camps). "It’s my wife so I got no choice right," Pumphruy said. He said he doesn’t normally go to these kinds of workouts but his wife was hosting the event. Rob Pumphruy was one of the two men who attended the workout. "I really liked the exercises that they did and overall it was really good." She said she would like to continue going to more. Jessica Roehrig, 24, said she thought the workout was going to be easier but found her first boot camp to be a challenge. Buckley tries to workout three or four times a week but finds it difficult to do so when juggling her work schedule. She was starting her New Year’s resolution by trying to workout more. "It is more strenuous than I thought."īuckley said she felt good but was a little shaky after completing boot camp. Zamojski had just completed the first set and took time to stretch and get ready for the next round. She and the other participants had to do three sets within the 41-minute workout with a two-minute break in-between each set. Marie Zamojski, 63, was in the front row during the workout. Some of the exercises being done were lunges, push ups, squats and plenty of stretching. The music and the exercises that were being used in Thunder Bay were also being used in more than 50 locations across the world. Each participant could choose an admission of $20 or $50, which would be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation local chapter. The participants were setting up their mats before the big world workout at 11 a.m. There were 37 participants at Confederation College’s bubble on Saturday. A world record is being attempted while trying to work off the holiday pounds in a simultaneous fitness workout.
